Games that follow the various World of Darkness games lines, put out by White Wolf and following either the Storyteller (for "oWoD") or Storytelling (for "nWoD") system. Like Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dresden Files, the premise is the modern world with supernatural beings afoot. Unlike the others, the supernatural is not known to the public at large in WoD.
Over the numerous lines released under the WoD umbrella (Vampire, Mage, Changeling, Wraith, Werewolf, Mummy, Gypsy, Hunter, etc..) there are many contradictions in the suggested canon setting. And yet, many WoD players show a surprising degree of tenacity in rejecting suggestions to stray from the canon backstory of the oWoD (having Baba Yaga not be an old vampire, having Harry Houdini not fake his death, having Einstein not be Changeling, et cetera) with little sign of them being any more accepting of non-canonical ideas for the nWoD (non-wolf were-things, vampire having a defined origin, Mage magic not being amnesia-causing to anyone or being amnesia-causing to everyone, ditching the idea of Atlantis, et cetera).
