Justice League Unlimited
Justice League Unlimited (or JLU, for short) is currently the most active non-sex-based comic book/supers MU* around. Its theme is the DC Comics animated universe, comprised of the cartoons Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, and to a lesser extent, Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series. Its headwiz was Voyd (formerly of the Marvel Choices games), who managed simultaneously both to conform to tradition for his games and buck them entirely. Voyd (who posts to WORA as Moritz) has since stepped down. There is no 'headwiz' anymore, but things were essentially run by Plastyk and Wynd until a site move in August 2009 led to a staff theme change; Plastyk and Wynd are now Minuteman and Alchemiss, respectively, and still in charge. The game purports to be a 'simple' traits process, which it definitely is in comparison to most of the Marvel Choices games or Brave and the Bold (the latter of which used the DCU RPG for character stats in addition to extensive traits). In the past, staff application reviews (or any staff interaction) were an experience similar to playing a roulette wheel - some were extremely easy-going and helpful, while others demanded serious business and elaborate explanations for the personalities of characters that showed up in one or two episodes of the above cartoons - to say nothing of the added concept application process that exists between 'character creation' and 'character application.' At times, staff themselves seemed to not be on the same page. Things came to a head during the Justice Lords TinyPlot, when a staff-alt tried to bring an abrupt conclusion to the plot, apparently without the approval or knowledge of other members of staff, including the one who seemed to be running the plot. Said staff-alt's actions were promptly nullified with an addition to a log that amounted to a retcon. Shortly after this, nearly the entire original staff -- the staffers most inclined to make character application a rigorous and demanding process -- left. Ultimately, the game succeeds where it could easily fail - most players' enjoyment of the theme (facilitated a great deal by the cartoons' presence on any number of video websites) overcomes the tedious and sometimes paradoxical-feeling traits application process. The game's largest area of potential improvement is in its bureaucratic approach, at times, towards a universe built from comic books via cartoons. A slap fight was here, but has been snipped to: http://wora.netlosers.com/index.php?topic=1655.msg97642 - SimianLogic
